The Labour Court upheld and amended a Rights Commissioner's recommendation in a pay dispute involving Western Health Board and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The decision was dated 30 June 2000. The union sought 90% of the craft rate for a worker when he acted as a relief van driver. The Court recommended that he accept either the Board's offer of the van-driver rate for driving duties, plus a lump sum for arrears, or a transfer to maintenance work, where he could have the same opportunity as others to earn 90% of the craft rate. The Court said the unfair-treatment issue should be investigated separately.
