The Labour Court amended a Rights Commissioner's recommendation and proposed a £1,200 settlement for a part-time worker at Gaiety Cinema Sligo. The decision was dated 25 July 2000. The dispute followed the cinema's proposal to extend her roster to include weekend work after it reopened in 1998. The Rights Commissioner had found no requirement for her to work weekends unless she volunteered and considered a redundancy payment appropriate, recommending £800 to settle the dispute. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union appealed, arguing that £800 was insufficient and seeking more than £3,000. Gaiety Cinema Sligo accepted the recommendation, citing a potential £1,148 redundancy payment and £300 already paid to the worker. The Court considered both sides' submissions and amended the recommendation to £1,200.
