The Labour Court recommended that a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation be upheld in a dispute between Tralee Urban District Council and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union over relief-supervisor cover. The decision was signed on 9 November 2000. The Rights Commissioner had recommended alternating relief cover between the former temporary supervisor and a relief worker from the panel, with an open competition for any later scheme. The Court said the dispute followed mishandling of the competition and a lack of clarity about the former supervisor’s contract, which caused confusion and resentment among the candidates ranked first and second.
