The Labour Court disallowed Bon Secours Hospital’s appeal and affirmed a recommendation that it concede the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for one day’s marriage leave for a non-nursing worker. The decision was signed on 9 March 2001. The union said one day’s marriage leave was common practice for non-nursing staff in public and voluntary hospitals; hospital management rejected the claim. The Court considered the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation reasonable and said it should be implemented.
