The Labour Court rejected Punch Industries Limited’s appeal and upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation for a €2,540 salary increase for a production manager. The decision was signed on 19 November 2002.
The worker, who had been employed by the company for about 20 years, said his salary was significantly below the engineering manager’s and cited a €6,500 difference. Punch argued that managers’ duties differed and management could set individual salaries. The Court found the worker had been told the gap resulted from an oversight and accepted the recommendation as the appropriate way to resolve the dispute.
