The Labour Court recommended that Divine Word Missionaries pay a worker €75,000, including her statutory redundancy entitlements, after 43 years’ service. The recommendation, dated 28 February 2011, followed the employer’s appeal against a Rights Commissioner recommendation for two weeks’ pay per year of service on top of statutory entitlements. The worker was represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. Divine Word Missionaries said it had accumulated losses of more than €500,000 over five years and could offer only statutory entitlements. It also cited its €30 weekly pension contributions for the worker. The Court recommended €75,000 as full and final settlement.
