The Labour Court recommended that Lund Precision Products Limited increase its compensation offer to a worker from €13,860 to €22,500 for loss of earnings after his Production Department Manager role became redundant. The decision was signed on 12 July 2011; payment was recommended in two equal phases on 1 August 2011 and 1 February 2012. The worker, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, appealed the Rights Commissioner’s finding that his redundancy selection was fair. The union said his 11 years as a foreman gave him an expectation of staying at that grade and sought compensation for reduced earnings. Lund Precision said he freely chose an alternative Operator role knowing it paid less.
