The Labour Court affirmed a recommendation extending the salary scale for a Childvision Braille production worker and providing retrospective pay, disallowing her appeal. The decision was signed on 6 April 2013.
The worker said she expected to move from level 1 to level 2 after completing a Braille certificate in 2009, and that colleagues had advanced after passing the examination. Childvision said promotion required a level 2 vacancy and none had arisen since 2008.
The Rights Commissioner had recommended extending the level 1 scale from six points to nine for affected staff, backdated to 1 January 2011, and reserving level 2 vacancies for them until they were promoted. The Court considered the recommendation fair and reasonable. Childvision confirmed the worker would move to the ninth point from February 2013 and receive retrospection in line with others who accepted the new scale.
