The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner recommendation that Tesco Ireland Limited pay a worker compensation equivalent to one week’s wages. The Court signed its decision on 18 July 2013 after Tesco Ireland Limited appealed. The recommendation followed a worker’s grievance, which took more than four months to resolve after an investigation into reduced deli products. Tesco said its investigation found the worker had no case to answer and that a later grievance review found no evidence of unfair treatment. The Labour Court said the delay and wholly inappropriate language used to convey the investigation outcome justified the monetary award.
