Labour Court rejects worker’s appeal over NUI Galway fees scheme

By Donal Gilhooly

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court disallowed a worker’s appeal over access to NUI Galway’s fees concession scheme for her daughter’s university attendance, affirming the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation. The worker argued that her employment since 1992, including temporary service, should qualify her. The university said the scheme excluded staff appointed to permanent posts after 1 October 1992; she became permanent in 1994. The Court found the policy had been applied consistently to people appointed after that date.
