Labour Court rejects upholsterer’s appeal over dismissal

By Cathal Brosnan

Labour Court ·

In 1988, the Labour Court rejected a worker’s appeal against the Rights Commissioner’s finding that his dismissal by Ballyfirm Bedding Limited was not unfair. The decision was signed on 28 March 1988, leaving the recommendation of no compensation unchanged. Ballyfirm Bedding Limited said the upholsterer had been absent for a full week without contacting the company. The worker, represented by F.L.A.C., said he had been unwell, had tried to telephone and was not given an opportunity to explain before he was dismissed. The Court found no reason to alter the recommendation and noted that the company was willing to provide him with a reference.
