Labour Court upholds recommendations on machine duties and service pay

By Orla Quinn

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court upheld recommendations restoring a worker to machine duties and granting retrospective service pay in a dispute brought by the Federated Workers Union of Ireland against I S Varian and Company Limited. The decision was signed on 9 November 1988. The union had sought £750 compensation alongside the worker’s return to machine duties. The Rights Commissioner recommended restoring her to those duties without compensation. The union also sought ten years’ retrospective service pay, claiming £300. The Rights Commissioner recommended £100 for retrospection and service pay from the week beginning 1 August 1988. The Court found no adequate grounds to alter either recommendation.
