In 1988, the Labour Court upheld a recommendation that loader drivers at Monaghan Mushrooms Limited grease the loaders during normal working hours and accept the usual responsibility for the work. The decision was signed on 17 November 1988. The Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union had argued that the work should attract extra payment and described the conditions as wet and dirty. The earlier recommendation provided for £12 a week per driver only if the work had to be done outside normal hours.
