The Labour Court declined to uphold a recommendation to promote a worker at Eolas and decided on 10 August 1989 that the organisation should increase its settlement offer to £10,000. The worker had appealed, seeking promotion from 1 April 1985 rather than 1 April 1986. The Court found the worker had reasonable expectations of promotion but no entitlement to it: neither the Personnel Officer nor the Chief Executive could guarantee promotion in the circumstances. The worker had retired from Eolas on 7 April 1989.
