In 1989, the Labour Court upheld the intent of a Rights Commissioner's recommendation after Dublin Gas appealed a staged return to a chargehand role for a gas fitter disciplined by the company. The decision was signed on 2 November 1989. The Federated Workers Union Of Ireland represented the worker. The Court required the worker to spend four weeks as a fitter, followed by a 12-month trial on reinstatement as a chargehand. The Rights Commissioner had found the company investigation thorough and in line with agreed procedures, while describing the loss of position as harsh and concluding that some discipline was warranted.
