In 1990, the Labour Court upheld a £600 unfair-dismissal settlement recommendation for a worker at Castle Curtains and Blinds Limited, rejecting his appeal for increased compensation. The decision was dated 23 April 1990. The worker said he expected permanent employment and was dismissed without notice after about five months. He said the company had not provided equipment or expenses for a Beaumont Hospital job. The company said it supplied tools, agreed to cover expenses and that the worker declined to attend. It also said his actions disrupted work schedules and customer relationships. The Rights Commissioner had found the worker was unfairly dismissed and recommended £600 as full and final settlement. The worker said the company had also paid him £164.20, equivalent to one week’s pay. After rehearing the appeal, the Labour Court concluded the recommendation was correct and should stand.
