Labour Court rejects union appeal over manageress’s pay claim

Labour Court ·

In 1990, the Labour Court rejected the Irish Distributive and Administrative Trade Union’s appeal and upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation on a pay claim against Tyler (Ire) Limited. The decision was signed on 20 December 1990. The union said the manageress’s pay did not match her grade and sought an increase from £145.55 to £162 a week, along with £1,500 compensation. Tyler said her basic pay reflected the store’s turnover and cited her commission, bonus and average weekly earnings of about £191. The Labour Court found no evidence to justify changing the recommendation. The Rights Commissioner’s final recommendation, following the salary review, upheld the company’s position and the union’s claim failed. The Court said the recommendation concerned this individual claim and need not set a precedent for future pay rates.
