The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation of £350 each for P. J. Kenny, E. Duffy and M. Egan, and £300 for S. McLoughlin, in a decision dated 30 November 1992. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had appealed, seeking increased compensation for the porters’ lost public-holiday earnings. The four worked public holidays under a long-standing arrangement. Western Health Board said one porter was sufficient to meet service needs on public holidays and that the revised roster would retain some premium earnings while reducing costs.
