Labour Court cuts Poundsworth worker’s recommendation to £600

By Orla Quinn

Labour Court ·

In 1992, the Labour Court reduced a recommendation to a worker from £900 to £600 on Poundsworth Limited’s appeal. The Court’s decision was signed on 8 December 1992. The Rights Commissioner had found the worker was unfairly dismissed and recommended £900, with no reinstatement. Poundsworth said the worker resigned; he said he was dismissed without warning. The Court found conflicting evidence about an interview before the worker’s employment ended. It considered a misunderstanding the most likely explanation, accepted that the company did not intend to dismiss him, but found it at fault for not clarifying the situation. The Court did not uphold the unfair-dismissal recommendation and amended the payment to £600.
