Labour Court amends incentive recommendation for Packard Electric worker

By Niamh Kearney

Labour Court ·

In 1993, the Labour Court amended a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation in a dispute over an incentive scheme at Packard Electric Ireland Limited. It found that a worker should be treated as having started on the scheme in February 1992, with his incentive payment adjusted accordingly. The decision was signed on 11 August 1993. The Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union appealed on the worker’s behalf after the Rights Commissioner recommended that its claim fail. The company said incentive payments depended on a group exceeding 100 per cent efficiency. The worker’s earlier groups had not met that threshold, while he began receiving incentive payments after transferring departments in February 1992.
