Labour Court upholds overtime recommendation for Cavan County Council worker

By Fionn Kelly

Labour Court ·

In 1993, the Labour Court rejected a worker’s appeal and upheld a Rights Commissioner recommendation of 1.50 hours’ overtime per relief visit, in addition to existing weekday compulsory overtime. The decision was signed on 18 February 1993. Cavan County Council opposed the appeal, brought for the worker by the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union (IMPACT). The union argued that caretaker duties at Cavan Courthouse were outside the worker’s original role and that the recommended overtime was inadequate. The Court found the recommendation reasonable, noting the council’s proposed alternative arrangements for the courthouse alarm system.
