Labour Court rejects bank-holiday working appeal

By Cathal Brosnan

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court rejected a worker’s appeal over proposed bank-holiday working at Missionary Sisters Of The Holy Rosary (MSHR), upholding the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation. The decision was dated 30 April 1996. The Court said employees should be allowed to swap bank-holiday shifts if this could be arranged. MSHR proposed that the worker take one bank-holiday shift in three on a rota, with a day off in lieu. The worker said her employment terms excluded bank-holiday work and raised concerns about family commitments. The Rights Commissioner’s recommendation included £300 in full and final settlement; the Labour Court upheld the recommendation and rejected the appeal.
