In 1996, the Labour Court upheld a recommendation that a Dublin Port And Docks Board Stores Chargehand receive the Warehouse Supervisor rate of £320.14 a week from 1 April. The decision was dated 14 June 1996. The Board had appealed after a union sought the worker’s promotion to Foreman, citing his extensive duties, round-the-clock on-call responsibilities and oversight of stores valued at about £900,000. The Board argued that the lower Assistant Warehouse Supervisor rate of £286.30 was more appropriate. The Court found that the Warehouse Supervisor rate was appropriate in the specific circumstances and said it should be taken into account in continuing restructuring discussions.
