In 1998, the Labour Court upheld a recommendation that Poe Kiely Hogan, Solicitors offer a worker represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union an allowance of 20% of her basic salary for special duties. The worker had taken on systems administrator responsibilities after starting as a secretary. She sought a substantial pay increase; the firm said her duties were consistent with the flexibility expected of clerical staff. Dated 7 October 1998, the Court found no reason to change the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation. The allowance was to apply from April 1997 for as long as the special duties continued.
