WRC rejects childcare worker’s race discrimination and harassment complaint

By Gráinne Nolan

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission found a childcare worker’s race discrimination and harassment complaint against a crèche was not well founded. The worker said she had been discriminated against and harassed; the crèche denied the allegations.

In a decision dated 8 May 2017, Adjudication Officer Kevin Baneham accepted the owner’s evidence on the race discrimination claim and found the crèche did not discriminate when seeking to increase the worker’s hours. He made no finding that comments about the worker’s husband amounted to harassment under the Employment Equality Acts.
