The WRC found that six agricultural workers were entitled to redundancy lump-sum payments after their employment ended. Adjudication Officer Kevin Baneham issued the decision dated 23 March 2016. The workers said their employer, a grower of agricultural products, told them their jobs would end because of a downturn in business. The employer’s letters also said they had declined interviews for alternative jobs. Their solicitor told the WRC that the workers had expressed interest in those roles but received no response or interview offer. The employer did not attend the hearing. The officer proceeded after confirming it had been notified. The WRC found that the workers had signalled interest in alternative employment and that the employer provided no further information. It found a redundancy situation in each case and granted each worker a lump-sum entitlement under the Redundancy Payments Acts, subject to qualifying insurable employment.
