The WRC awarded a sales manager €6,600 in redundancy pay and €1,730 in unpaid wages after his employer failed to attend the hearing. Adjudication Officer Kevin Baneham dated the decision 30 March 2016. The worker said new investors sought substantial changes to staff roles and that the alternative role offered to him was unsuitable. He said the company agreed his role was redundant and he was given a month’s notice, but the promised redundancy payment and wages had not arrived. He also said he prepared a handover file and liaised with the company after leaving. The company made no submissions and had no representative at the hearing. The WRC found that a redundancy situation had occurred and that the worker was entitled to the €6,600 lump sum. It also found he could recover €1,730 in unpaid wages. The redundancy calculation used gross weekly pay of €600 and was subject to the worker having been in insurable employment during the relevant period.
