The WRC upheld a shop assistant’s complaints of unfair dismissal and a working-time breach in a decision dated 25 January 2017. The adjudication officer ordered €5,000 compensation for unfair dismissal, plus €787.15 for economic loss and a separate €500 compensation for the working-time breach. The respondent did not attend the hearing. The complainant said he was dismissed without notice or warnings after an argument about mopping the floor at the end of his shift. He also said he had received only 69 hours of holiday pay during 67 weeks of employment. The officer upheld both complaints on the uncontested evidence.
