The Workplace Relations Commission found that a construction worker was unfairly dismissed and awarded him €15,750 in compensation. The decision was dated 10 August 2016.
The worker said his employer told him there was no work after he began personal injury proceedings over a workplace injury. The construction company did not attend the hearing.
The adjudicator found that the employer gave no warning or explanation, held no hearing and gave the worker no chance to challenge the dismissal. The dismissal was unfair regardless of whether the threatened civil action played a part.
