The WRC found a worker entitled to a redundancy payment after an electrical shop closed without notice, in a decision dated 28 June 2016. The entitlement was based on employment from 2 May 1984 to 7 February 2015 and a gross weekly wage of €163.70, subject to the worker having been in insurable employment during the relevant period. The worker said he was a service engineer at the shop and sought a redundancy payment after the business closed. The employer did not attend the hearing, and the officer heard the worker’s uncontested evidence.
