The Workplace Relations Commission recommended €2,000 compensation for a hairdresser who was dismissed after requesting a meeting to raise a grievance about her manager. The decision was dated 5 September 2016.
The hairdresser said she was not told that two directors would attend the meeting, which she expected to be about her concerns. She said she was accused of misconduct and dismissed without warning or a chance to respond. A hairdressing studio did not attend the hearing.
The adjudication officer found she had not been told the meeting’s purpose, notified of a serious misconduct charge or given a fair chance to answer it. He found she was unfairly treated and unfairly dismissed in the general meaning of the phrase, and recommended €2,000 for the breach of her rights and the general unfairness of her treatment.
