The WRC dismissed a member of the travelling community’s Equal Status complaint against a hotel over the cancellation of accommodation and a function room for a 70th birthday party. It found there were no exceptional circumstances to extend the time limit and the hotel had not been notified of a discrimination claim. The decision was dated 14 June 2017; the merits were not decided.
The complainant said travel abroad delayed instructions to a solicitor. The hotel said it received a letter about breach of contract, without mention of discrimination. The adjudicator found the complainant had been contactable and could have instructed the solicitor shortly after the booking was cancelled.
