The Workplace Relations Commission found the dismissal of a general manager unfair and awarded her €21,770 in compensation. The decision was dated 25 November 2016.
The WRC said she was not warned that her job was at risk or given a chance to respond before the redundancy decision. It also found the financial case unconvincing and said the later appointment of a marketing manager, whose duties overlapped with the general manager’s, raised questions about the rationale.
The organisation said it reorganised for economic and business reasons, redistributed duties and made the general manager’s role redundant. She argued there was no genuine redundancy and that the dismissal process was unfair.
