WRC orders payroll provider to reinstate account manager

By Rory Hanlon

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission ordered a payroll and HR support provider to reinstate an account manager after finding that her dismissal over performance targets was unfair. The decision was dated 20 March 2017.

The account manager said a major client campaign should have counted towards her targets and that she would have met her performance improvement targets if it had. The provider said she had not met her targets despite support and an extended performance improvement process.

The adjudication officer found that the provider first documented the campaign’s exclusion in July 2015, when including it would have meant the account manager met her target. The officer also found that the appeal did not adequately consider service problems affecting new sales. The dismissal was unfair because the campaign had been excluded late and those service issues received insufficient regard. The WRC ordered reinstatement, returning her to her job.
