The Workplace Relations Commission found that a local partnership company had not changed a mediator’s contractual terms by limiting support for her degree course to €1,000 for 2015–16. The decision, dated 20 March 2017, found her complaint under the Terms of Employment (Information) Act was not well founded. The mediator argued that previous funding and past practice entitled her to full support for the four-year course, whose fees she said involved a €10,000 commitment. The company said education funding was discretionary and considered year by year. The WRC found that training support was a term of employment covered by the notification rules, but that the handbook made funding discretionary. It concluded that the mediator had no contractual right to full funding for later years.
