WRC orders beauty salon to pay beautician €850 over employment claims

By Rory Hanlon

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission upheld four complaints by a beautician against a beauty salon and ordered compensation of €850, €230.46, €153.60 and €288. The decision was dated 25 November 2016. The salon accepted it had not provided written employment terms and that public-holiday pay was due. The adjudicator also found the salon was not entitled to withhold final wages over disputed stock use because no contract term authorised the deduction. She found the beautician was owed 15.36 hours of annual leave. The salon said the employee had taken stock for private use; the employee said she used some items for demonstrations.
