The WRC awarded a catering worker €2,250 in compensation after finding her dismissal procedurally unfair. The decision was dated 2 May 2017. The worker said she had raised concerns about bullying and discrimination before going on long-term sick leave. When she said she was ready to return, she was told her position had been filled. Her employer argued that the claim was late, but the WRC extended the time limit after considering correspondence, medical reports and oral evidence. The officer found that the employer should have treated the worker’s November 2015 letter as an appeal and responded to it. The award was approximately four weeks’ pay.
