By Orla Quinn

Workplace Relations Commission ·

A WRC adjudication officer ordered a tiling contractor to pay a tiler €6,649 in unpaid wages. The officer also awarded €1,250 for the failure to provide written employment terms and €520 for four unpaid public holidays. The decision was dated 25 April 2017.

The tiler said he received no written contract and was owed wages, holiday pay and public-holiday pay. The contractor did not attend the hearing. Based on the uncontested evidence, the officer found the worker was owed €5,349 net in wages and €1,300 in holiday pay, making the €6,649 wages award. The €520 public-holiday award was compensation for economic loss.
