WRC dismisses two complaints after service user misses hearing

By Ruairí Dolan

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission dismissed two Equal Status complaints against a government agency after the service user did not attend the hearing. In a decision dated 29 November 2016, it found her absence unexplained and dismissed both claims for want of prosecution; the merits were not decided. She had alleged gender and race discrimination in services connected with the agency’s role in court proceedings, including its failure to provide an interpreter. The agency said arranging an interpreter for court was a matter for the District Court.
