The Workplace Relations Commission found for a meat factory on a worker’s race and religion discrimination and victimisation complaints, in a decision dated 17 May 2017. The worker said Egyptian employees faced worse treatment over work allocation, hours, pay, breaks and religious leave. The employer denied the claims. The adjudication officer found the worker had not established discrimination in his conditions of employment. He accepted the employer’s evidence that work allocation, pay, breaks and religious leave were handled without less favourable treatment based on race or religion. The victimisation claim also failed: another employee’s personal injury proceedings were not a protected act under the Employment Equality Acts. A duplicate complaint was withdrawn.
