The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that the standard public service compensation scheme apply to two hoist operators’ dispute over a special overtime allowance. The decision was dated 12 December 2016. The operators said they still worked on large hoists and that the allowance should be restored. The local authority said the allowance was tied to a unique, heavy hoist at the demolished Towers complex, which it had sold. It offered to engage with SIPTU about applying the standard compensation scheme. The adjudication officer found that the special arrangement was linked to that machine and that its original operational basis no longer existed. The recommendation concerned the one-and-a-half-years compensation scheme.
