WRC finds taxi company unfairly dismissed Radio Control Centre Supervisor

By Saoirse Doyle

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission found a taxi company unfairly dismissed a Radio Control Centre Supervisor and directed it to pay him €2,134.16 compensation. The decision was dated 31 August 2017. The supervisor had worked for the company for 30 years.

The company said it dismissed him after investigations into allegations of harassment, sexual harassment and bullying. Those investigations did not uphold the complaints, although they criticised aspects of his conduct. The supervisor argued that dismissal was disproportionate and that his appeal did not address his grounds properly.

The adjudication officer found there were insufficient grounds for dismissal, that the sanction was too severe and that the procedures, including the appeal, were unfair. The WRC upheld the unfair dismissal complaint and ordered the company to pay compensation.
