WRC upholds fitter’s redundancy payment claim against motor company

By Donal Gilhooly

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission upheld a fitter’s redundancy payment claim against a motor company. The award was calculated using gross weekly pay of €720.60 and was subject to the fitter having been in insurable employment during the relevant period. The decision was dated 27 October 2017. The fitter said he had objected to being moved to a three-day week and had sought a return to full-time hours. The company accepted that he was entitled to redundancy payments but said it could not afford to pay. The decision also records that two other complaints were withdrawn.
