The WRC found it had no jurisdiction to hear a teacher’s unfair dismissal claim against a community secondary school because her signed fixed-term contract met the statutory conditions for excluding the claim. The decision was dated 24 May 2017. The teacher said she had taught at the school over three academic years, but had a written contract only for the final year. The WRC found the successive-contract protection did not apply because there was only one written fixed-term contract. The school had argued that the written contract excluded the Unfair Dismissals Acts.
