The Workplace Relations Commission rejected an electrician’s unfair dismissal complaint, finding the redundancy genuine and not connected to him as an individual. A separate complaint under the Terms of Employment (Information) Act was withdrawn at the hearing. The decision was dated 18 December 2017. The electrician argued that he was unfairly selected and that his appeal was not finalised. The food company said it had lost a major order, consulted staff and used a selection matrix. The adjudication officer found the process genuine and transparent and not designed to single him out. The electrician’s dismissal was by way of redundancy, so his unfair dismissal complaint failed.
