WRC recommends grievance procedure and job evaluation for HR employee

By Orla Quinn

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that a third-level institution establish a local procedure for staff grievances and arrange a job-grading evaluation of an HR employee’s role. The recommendation was dated 9 May 2017. The employee said her duties matched a higher grade and sought an evaluation. She also said the institution had treated her grading concern as an industrial relations claim in correspondence to SIPTU dated 15 May 2014. The institution said Department of Education and Skills guidelines prevented it from agreeing to claims that increased costs. The adjudication officer found that the employee had not raised and exhausted the dispute through the local grievance procedure, and recommended that a suitably qualified person assess the merits of her grading claim.
