The WRC awarded a night porter €3,500 after finding he was unfairly dismissed by A Reception Centre, Hostel. Adjudication officer James Kelly dated the decision 4 October 2017. The worker had been employed for more than 11 years. The employer said it treated his failure to attend a meeting as a resignation, but the WRC found its 28 September letter ended his employment. The officer found serious procedural deficiencies and said the worker contributed to his dismissal and had not fully tried to reduce his losses; those factors were reflected in the compensation.
