The WRC found that a vehicle inspector’s unfair dismissal complaint was not well founded after rejecting his explanation for a vehicle’s serious defects. Adjudication Officer John Walsh dated the decision 21 November 2017. The employer said it dismissed the inspector after a vehicle he had tested as roadworthy was found with serious defects days later. He argued that the vehicle may have been altered after his test. The WRC noted that it was tested on 15 and 16 January 2016, sold on 17 January and inspected by an independent garage on 18 January. It found his explanation that sound ball joints had been replaced with defective ones within a day implausible. The unfair dismissal complaint failed.
