WRC rejects shop assistant’s three complaints against retail outlet

Workplace Relations Commission ·

A shop assistant’s three complaints against a retail outlet failed in a Workplace Relations Commission decision dated 9 January 2018. The assistant said his contract was issued late, his hours were cut after a counterfeit-note incident and the manager harassed him. The outlet said he received written terms within two months, his contract set hours of 8–16 a week, and he was counselled and offered refresher training after the incident. The adjudication officer found the written terms were supplied on time and the rosters showed hours within the contract. She found the outlet acted professionally, did not accept the assistant’s account of abusive language and noted that he had not lodged a grievance. All three complaints failed.
