Hair stylist awarded €500 after salon failed to provide written terms

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC awarded a hair stylist €500 after finding her salon employer had not provided a written statement of employment terms. The decision was dated 9 June 2017. The stylist resigned after her employer spoke to her about refusing to serve a customer. The WRC rejected her constructive dismissal complaint, finding she resigned within hours, overreacted and could not reasonably blame the employer. Her minimum notice complaint also failed because she resigned and did not indicate she was willing to work her notice. The industrial relations dispute and two unfair dismissal complaints were withdrawn; her remaining unfair dismissal complaint failed.
